London Free Parking

Let’s first talk about Stratford and then, we will explore the best parking spots there, both free and paid.

Stratford, which is part of the London Borough of Newham, is a vibrant tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions. While it is part of Newham, Stratford is known for its mix of Victorian architecture, avant-garde urban developments, and a thriving cultural scene.

Stratford dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period, but it saw significant development during the Victorian era as a key connection point in London’s expanding railway network. Throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, it gradually evolved from an industrial suburb to a bustling cultural and commercial center.

The primary site of the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics is responsible for the most recent major developments in Stratford. As you might expect, hosting the Olympics resulted in significant investments, such as the Olympic Park (now known as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park) and a slew of other improvements and developments.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is still one of the most important landmarks and attractions in Stratford today. The London Aquatics Centre, The Copper Box Arena, and the iconic London Stadium, home of West Ham United FC, are all located within this sprawling, beautifully designed parkland.

Stratford has just as much to offer the mind as it does the body. It is home to the Stratford Circus Arts Centre, which provides a platform for local and international artists; the Discover Children’s Story Centre, which engages young minds with interactive exhibitions; and the Theatre Royal Stratford East, one of London’s most renowned stages outside of the West End.

Stratford is a major transportation hub with many connections to the rest of London and beyond. Stratford Station is served by several lines, including the London Underground’s Central and Jubilee lines, the London Overground, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), and mainline train services between London and the rest of the United Kingdom.

While public transportation is excellent, parking options, like those in the rest of central or near-central London, are limited and expensive. We have scoured Stratford to bring you a selection of the best free and paid parking spots available, with the goal of helping you save money on parking or find more convenient options.

In this guide, we will see where can we find Free and Paid Parking Spaces in Stratford, London.

Free and Paid Parking in Stratford, London

Free, unrestricted residential street parking

Unfortunately, free and unrestricted residential streetside parking does not exist in Stratford, but this should not come as a surprise. In London, free and unrestricted residential (and even commercial) streetside parking is as scarce as hen’s teeth, and nearly all residential streets have either restricted residents-only parking, pay-and-display parking, or a combination of the two with a time limit on parking.

We found only two completely free parking spots (other than parking on the kerb) with a 30-minute time limit. While this isn’t ideal, you could think about them as a quick step out of the car. The distances are measured from Stratford Station, which is centrally located and only a few minutes’ walk from the Olympic Park and a number of popular shopping destinations.

  • Leyton Road E15 1AB – 0.7 miles
  • Church Street E15 3HX – 0.8 miles

Free Overnight/Sunday Parking

The majority of street parking in Stratford (except in the heart of busy commercial areas) is pay-and-display, as is the rest of London. This means that finding streetside parking isn’t difficult; however, it isn’t free for the majority of the day.

However, if all you need is overnight parking, you’re in luck. After 6:30 p.m. (even on residential streets), the pay-and-display streetside parking bays become largely free until 8:00 a.m. the next morning, and all day on Sundays. Some residential streets, such as Chandos Road, with its public gardens, are also free on Saturdays, making it an ideal location for all-weekend parking. On event days, free parking is only available after 9 p.m.

After 6:30 p.m., consider looking for free parking on these streets in Stratford. Once again, the indicated distances are from Stratford Station.

  • Station Street E15 1BB – 0.8 miles
  • Chant Square E15 4RT – 0.3 miles
  • Gibbins Road E15 2JE – 0.2 miles
  • Bridge Road E15 3PA – 0.3 miles
  • Jupp Road E15 1LF – 0.2 miles
  • David Street E15 1PP – 0.7 miles
  • Chandos Road E15 1ED – 0.9 miles
  • Manbey Park Road E15 1EY – 0.6 miles
  • Waddington Street E15 1PH – 0.6 miles
  • Windmill Lane E15 1PH – 0.5 miles

Free EV Parking

You can park your EV (Electric Vehicle) in these locations for up to 4 hours if you use the charging stations at these locations. The distances, like the others, indicate the walking distance from Stratford Station.

  • Station Street E15 1BB – 0.1 miles
  • Victoria Street E15 4PR – 0.4 miles
  • Grove Cres. Road E15 1BB – 0.3 miles

Cheapest Paid Car Parks

In all honesty, we were surprised by how few paid parking spaces are available in Stratford. We expected a lot more options after years of creating these pages. Our guess is that because Stratford has such well-developed public transportation infrastructure, the city council and private investors don’t see the need to build more parking lots.

The car parks listed below provide the best value for money in Stratford. While there are more paid parking lots, the prices continue to rise. We’d also like to point out that there is affordable parking available in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, but only for those visiting the aquatics center or the Copper Box. If you only use the parking bay without visiting either of these locations, you will receive a £45 parking ticket upon your return.

  • Westfield Car Parks E15 2DU – £6.00 for 2 hours
  • Stratford International Car Park E20 1YY – £6.95 for 2 hours
  • Stratford Multi-Storey Car Park E15 1XE – £4.80 for 2 hours
  • ParkBee Buzz Bingo E15 4QX – £10.00 for 2 hours

Free short-term parking (2h or less)

Finally, look for parking at shopping malls and commercial centers. Frequently, they will offer 2 hours of free parking for their customers only, but the purchase of a small pack of gum or a bottle of water quickly overcomes this barrier. There is free parking for 2 hours at:

  • Lyton Mills Retail Park E10 5NH
  • Morrisons E15 1HP
